Step-by-Step Cleaning Process:
- We recommend using a Bore Guide to ensure precise application of chemicals and protect the barrel during cleaning. Examples include the Tipton Universal Bore Guide Kit, Tipton RAPID Deluxe Bore Guide Kit, or Delta Series AR-15 Bore Guide.
Step 1: Penetrate the Bore with ThorroFlush
- Start by running a patch soaked in ThorroFlush through the bore to remove any loose carbon fouling. Alternatively, a cleaning cord will suffice for this step. This prepares the barrel for further cleaning.
Step 2: Apply ThorroClean
- Apply a sufficient amount of ThorroClean (about one teaspoon) to a quality nylon brush (ideally an IOSSO Eliminator Bore Brush). Run the brush through the barrel back and forth approximately 10 to 15 times. Ensure the brush has enough ThorroClean. This step effectively breaks down copper and carbon deposits by evenly coating the bore with chemicals while the specially formulated, chemical-resistant brush removes layers of already loosened fouling.
Step 3: Finish Cleaning with ThorroFlush
- Push a dry patch through the bore to remove excess ThorroClean. Follow by pushing patches soaked in ThorroFlush through the bore to clean out any ThorroClean residue. Typically, this requires 2 to 3 patches. Carefully check the Bore Guide for any remaining ThorroClean residue, and use a borescope for a thorough bore inspection.
