The Hornady Overall Length Gauge (OAL) is a tool used during reloading to accurately measure the optimal cartridge length in relation to the chamber of a specific firearm. This length determines how deep the bullet will be seated in the case, affecting shooting accuracy
This straight gauge is ideal for bolt-action rifles, single-shot firearms, or any firearm with direct access to the chamber.
Measurement accuracy is 0.001".
OAL Gauge Features:
- Precise length measurement: This gauge allows accurately measure the overall length of the cartridge (O.A.L.), which is the distance from the case head to the bullet tip.
- Compatibility with modified cases: The gauge is used in conjunction with modified cases that are threaded and allow for precise measurement.
- Optimization of shooting accuracy: Measuring the correct cartridge length is key to improving shooting accuracy.
Usage:
- Modified case of the corresponding caliber is screwed onto the gauge.
- Bullet is inserted into the case, and the tool is inserted into the cartridge chamber.
- The bullet is then gently pushed towards the muzzle, and the overall cartridge length (OAL) is measured.
- The gauge will show the exact cartridge length (at which the bullet contacts the rifling grooves).
